Danny Ings will quit West Ham 'soon' - 'he can't play David's way', says expert

Danny Ings will depart West Ham United “soon”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie claimed the Englishman does not suit a David Moyes team and must seek game time elsewhere.

The former Liverpool and Southampton centre-forward has been reduced to mostly cameo roles this season with just three starts from 12 appearances without a single goal contribution.

After making the £15million switch from Aston Villa in January, the Scotsman has preferred Michail Antonio over Ings this season.

McAvennie does not foresee Ings staying in Stratford beyond his contract, which expires in the summer of 2025, and warned the Hammers to be careful how they spend their budget.

“I don’t know what Ings is doing,” he told Football Insider.

“I think he’ll move on soon. He’s got to play because he’s a goalscorer.

“He’s never going to work his backside off to help others, he’s just a natural striker which doesn’t fit into David Moyes’ way of playing football.

“I don’t know why he’s there – not because he’s not a good striker but because he doesn’t fit at West Ham.

“You’ve got to be careful with who you’re buying now. It’s not just a case of spending money.

“If they can’t play David’s way, it’s game over and just money being wasted.”
