Celtic expert drops 'incredible' Luis Palma verdict - 'I've seen Brendan shout at him a few times'

Luis Palma can “get to the top” under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie claimed the £3.4million winger was possibly the best summer signing for the club “for a long, long time.”

The 23-year-old has bagged five goals and five assists in all competitions for Celtic this season including his Man Of The Match display on Sunday’s (12 November) 6-0 mauling of Aberdeen.

Rodgers praised the Honduras international after the win against the Dons, calling him a “very talented player” who “showed variety” in his play.

McAvennie was impressed by Palma’s ability on the ball but pointed to one key area of improvement.

“He could be the best signing of the summer for a long, long time,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s come in and, let’s be honest, everyone loved Jota. Palma’s come in and taken over [that role].

“I’ve seen Brendan shout at him a couple of times. He’s got to get used to the league.

“But for the striker, some of the balls he’s putting into the box – Jota wasn’t doing that.

“The boy’s got everything. If you could get him a sprint coach and make him a wee bit quicker, he’ll get to the top.

“Honestly he’s got everything. His first touch is incredible. I liked him at the beginning but not everyone was convinced but I’m so pleased.

“I don’t think he’s even close to fulfilling his potential at the moment. He has so much more to give and Brendan will get that out of him because that’s the kind of coach he is.

“He’s come on and, my god, he’s superb. He makes it look so easy.”

In other news, McAvennie slams ‘idiot’ Celtic fans as he’s embarrassed at what’s happened at ‘my club’.
