Pundit reacts as Leeds coach quits 'safest job in the world' - 'It won't change the atmosphere in the dressing room'
It “won’t really matter” that coach Michael Skubala quit Leeds United to become Lincoln City manager.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie claimed the former under-21 coach’s role at Elland Road was “the safest job in the world”.
Skubala was appointed the Imps’ boss on Monday (13 November) after joining Leeds’ youth setup in the summer of 2022.
He earned senior management experience as interim manager after Jesse Marsch and Javi Gracia were sacked and claimed his “eclectic” 20-year career, including heading up the England senior futsal team, has prepared him for his first permanent senior role.
However, McAvennie can’t foresee his exit causing Leeds many problems at all.
“It won’t really matter with youth teams,” he told Football Insider.
“The biggest problem I’ve got is a lot of coaches always think they’re managers – Michael Beale being a great example.
“Being a good coach does not mean you’re a good manager.
“Maybe with Daniel Farke coming in, he wants the under-21s to train in the same way that the first team, so somebody has to go in and transition.
“Fair play to Skubala for leaving a club like Leeds, probably the safest job in the world.
“It won’t change the club much, it won’t change the atmosphere in the dressing room or anything like that. It won’t make a difference.”
