Sources: Man United and Newcastle in pole position to sign Serhou Guirassy

Man United and Newcastle United are now in pole position to land red-hot Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy in January, sources have told Football Insider.

Fulham had also held a strong interest in the 27-year-old but it is believed they are now not optimistic of being able to compete with frontrunning elite Premier League clubs for his signature.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Marco Silva’s side could now be forced to look elsewhere for a new striker capable of replacing Aleksandar Mitrović and pull out of the race for Guirassy.

Other clubs across Europe are now preparing to race the likes of Man United and Newcastle for Guirassy‘s signature in January.

The Guinea international, who will head to the African Cup of Nations with his country in the new year, has managed 17 goals and two assists in 12 games across all competitions this season.

He scored yet again on Saturday (2 December) as third-place Stuttgart ran out 2-0 winners against Werder Bremen.

The striker’s £15million release clause makes him an affordable option for both Newcastle and Man United – who are on the hunt for striking reinforcements in January.

Guirassy only joined Stuttgart permanently in the most recent summer window after spending the 2022-23 campaign on loan at the Bundesliga side.

His contract is not due to expire until June 2026.

Newcastle are keen to add a new striker in January with Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak both struggling with injury problems so far this term.

Isak is the Magpies’ top scorer this term with nine goals in 15 games across all competitions.

Man United are also keen to bolster their front line in January as summer signing Rasmus Hojlund struggles for goals.

Hojlund has hit five Champions League strikes for United but is yet to find the net in 10 Premier League games.
