West Ham expert admits he was wrong about Tomas Soucek

Tomas Soucek is back in form for West Ham United after his late goal against Nottingham Forest.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie admitted he was wrong about the midfielder after insisting he be dropped.

The Czech international headed home the 88th-minute winner at the London Stadium against the Reds in a 3-2 win on Sunday (12 November) to get the Irons back into the top half of the Premier League table.

Soucek has struggled with form this season and has been outshined by the Hammers’ new midfield additions but looks to be back to his best.

McAvennie praised the 27-year-old and claimed his match-winner would do him “the world of good”.

“Soucek scoring is the biggest thing for me,” he told Football Insider.

“I’ve been saying he could have been dropped. Everything I said he should be doing he did on the weekend.

“He’s getting in the box – he’s not been doing that with any conviction but he could have scored four.

“I was thinking where had he been. I’ve been saying to drop Soucek – but not now. I was wrong. Now, West Ham have got a hell of a midfield with so many talented players.

“What I loved about it was the interview he did when they showed him his goal. I was thinking that he’s got passion.

“That’s what West Ham need, a guy who loves the game. He was probably thinking that he’d not scored for ages – he needed that. That’ll do him the world of god.”
