'Huge blow' - Pundit drops Man City verdict after shattering injury news

Man City will “blow Chelsea away” despite John Stones’ absence.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Scotland and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie hailed the Englishman as “one of the most improved players” under Pep Guardiola.

The 29-year-old was forced off in City’s 3-0 win over BSC Young Boys on Tuesday (7 November) after a recent two-month absence for hamstring and hip problems.

Stones has managed six games so far this season and started the last three Premier League fixtures, but Guardiola admitted City were “in trouble” as he could be out “for a while” in what was “deep bad news”.

McAvennie feels that Chelsea will still struggle despite the “big blow” of losing Stones again so quickly because of the club’s squad depth.

“Chelsea are not that team,” he told Football Insider.

“City will blow them away. Stones is, for me, probably one of the most improved players I’ve seen under Pep.

“I didn’t he was a good centre-half. I didn’t think he could tackle, and then Pep got hold of him and now he’s one of the best.

“For him to go off injured is a huge blow and devastating to the boy – but it’s Man City.

“They’ve got so many players, there’s probably somebody in the reserves that we’ve never heard of who can come in and look like he’s been there for years!”
