Pundit can't believe Kemar Roofe news after Rangers source's reveal - 'I'm baffled'

Kemar Roofe is the best striker at Rangers despite being expected to quit the club soon.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie admitted he was “baffled” that Roofe could leave, whose finishing is superior to the Gers’ new signing.

As revealed by Football Insider (3 November), Rangers are expected to let the 30-year-old leave when his contract expires this summer but could sanction a deal this January.

Roofe has struggled with injuries for much of his Ibrox career and has only recently returned from his latest setback and is in contention for the Sparta Prague clash on Thursday night (9 November).

McAvennie claimed that the new signings could prove him wrong, but for now, he can’t understand why the Gers would let Roofe go.

“I think he’s the best striker at the club,” he told Football Insider.

“Rangers have done it before, letting Alfredo Morelos go. So it wouldn’t surprise me if Roofe left.

“I might be proven wrong. You’ve seen the boys that have come in. Danilo has looked alright, but Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers – they’re okay.

“I don’t think they’re at the level that Roofe is when it comes to finishing. It’s a strange one if they’re letting him go.

“I’m amazed by this. He may be on big wages and that might be the reason if the other boys are on a lot less.”
