Kieran Maguire shares 'spectacular' Man United verdict after £650m twist

The Glazers will consider their ownership of Man United a ‘spectacular’ success despite facing criticism over their running of the club.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the benefits the Glazers will receive from Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover.

According to The Telegraph, the Glazers are set to receive £650million as a result of Ratcliffe’s minority investment deal.

It means the American family have already recouped most of the £790million they paid for the club back in 2005 while still retaining a majority stake.

Sporting control is set to be handed over to Ratcliffe and his team, while the Glazers will still benefit from any increase in value to the club.

Maguire insists the takeover value adds to the ‘spectacular’ business success that the Glazers have enjoyed since acquiring the Red Devils.

There is a lot of criticism levelled at the Glazers, and rightly so,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

“But from a business point of view, Manchester United has been a spectacular success for them and this is another example of that.

“They will point out that Manchester United have won the Premier League five times and the Champions League once under their ownership.

So they can’t quite understand the criticism.

“To a certain extent, they’re both having their cake and eating it with this deal with Jim Ratcliffe.

They’re getting the upside of future success of the club, and they’re also getting the benefit of selling the shares and getting cash straight away.
