Sources: Four Liverpool stars in race-against-time bid to be ready for Man City showdown

Liverpool have chartered a plane to bring their four south American stars back to England and get them ready for Saturday’s Man City showdown, sources have told Football Insider.

The Reds have paid for a private jet to bring them back to Merseyside so they can be involved in training on Thursday ahead of their crucial Premier League clash against City, which kicks off at 12.30pm.

Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Alisson and Alexis Mac Allister were all in action in the early hours of Wednesday morning (22 November) for their World Cup qualification fixtures.

The early kick-off gives the players little over 72 hours to come back to England, recover and prepare for the tie.

Liverpool are attempting to protect their south Americans from fatigue ahead of yet another 12:30 post-international break kick-off.

They faced the same issue in September when they were handed the early afternoon kick-off for their fixture against Wolves which saw Nunez and Diaz drop to the bench.

Mac Allister and Alisson shared the pitch for the full 90 minutes at the Maracana Stadium for Argentina and Brazil respectively, but the World Cup winners came out on top with a 1-0 win.

Nunez played 73 minutes and scored in his fourth consecutive Uruguay game with a brace to defeat Bolivia 3-0, while Diaz played 81 minutes in Colombia’s 1-0 win over Paraguay.

Klopp and Liverpool staff are pulling out all the stops to ensure the key quartet are available for selection, and in contention to make the starting XI.

The game against Pep Guardiola’s side could see Liverpool reach the top of the Premier League table, with City just one point ahead of the Reds on 28 points after 12 games.
