Sources: Reo Hatate to stay at Celtic after big development

Reo Hatate’s hamstring injury has ended any possibility of a January move away from Celtic, sources have told Football Insider.

Premier League clubs have sent their scouts north of the border on several occasions to assess the 25-year-old central midfielder – who has been linked with Tottenham.

But Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has now ruled him out until after Christmas after he suffered a serious hamstring injury against Atletico Madrid last week (25 October).

The Hoops tied Hatate down to a new contract in September – with that new agreement set to run until the summer of 2028.

That agreement came amid interest from Premier League clubs, but now the Glasgow giants know the Japan international will remain at the club until the summer of 2024 at least while he makes a full recovery from injury.

Celtic have also been busy tying down their other top stars to improved, long-term deals to fend off interest from elsewhere.

Kyogo Furuhashi and Matt O’Riley are among the best performers to pledge their futures to the Parkhead club with renewed contracts.

Hatate, who had already missed a month this season with a calf injury, has notched two goals and two assists this term.

He is now set to miss at least 11 games between now and Christmas Day – with Celtic also hosting Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on 30 December.

Rodgers’ side sit top of the table – five points ahead of their Glasgow rivals after 11 league games.

However, the Hoops are bottom of their Champions League group at the halfway point after picking up just one point from a possible nine.

In other news, Brighton set sights on signing Celtic star man.
