Sources: Seven-year deal agreed as Chelsea finalise £55m Romeo Lavia move

Chelsea are set to sign Romeo Lavia in deal worth £55 million, sources have told Football Insider.

The deal will be worth 50m + 5m in add ons, with a contract agreed until 2030 (seven years) already agreed.

It is also believed that there is an option on the deal also for an extra year.

Chelsea have offered around £55m for Lavia, who has been the subject of three failed bids from Liverpool worth up to £48m, despite also completing a British-record deal for Moises Caicedo in a deal worth up to £115m.

The final terms of the deal were being negotiated after they agreed to improve on Liverpool’s £111m offer that was accepted by Brighton on Thursday.

Caicedo informed Liverpool on Friday that he wanted to join Chelsea, which opened the door again for the London club to renegotiate.

The Blues entered the bidding war for Lavia with Liverpool in recent days – with Southampton turning down a reported £48million offer for their star man.

It is believed the south coast club were standing firm on their £50million valuation of Lavia despite their relegation to the Championship.

Lavia didn’t feature in the Saints’ opening day win over Sheffield Wednesday last week (4 August) or in their recent match against Norwich on Saturday (11 August).

Man City will be entitled to 20% of any fee received for his services and hold a £40m buy-back option which becomes active next summer (2024).

Lavia, whose contract at Southampton runs until June 2027, turned out 34 times across all competitions last season.
