Sources: Liverpool buyback option could break Fabio Carvalho deadlock

Liverpool may consider inserting a buyback clause into any permanent deal for Fabio Carvalho in order to break a potential deadlock over his future, sources have told Football Insider.

As exclusively revealed by Football Insider on May 29, the Portuguese is the subject of strong interest from a number of clubs after struggling for regular minutes during what has been a frustrating debut season at Anfield.

West Ham, Brentford and Burnley have already made enquiries over a potential loan deal, while an unnamed Champions League club has also had a permanent offer rebuffed.

And it is understood that the certainty provided by the latter option currently appeals more to the player as he looks to get his career back on track.

However, Liverpool’s preference would be to send Carvalho out on a temporary deal so as not to rule out the possibility of him ultimately fulfilling his potential at Anfield.

For that reason, Football Insider understands that a third option has also been tentatively discussed: a permanent move including a buyback option.

The Reds previously included a similar clause in the £23.5m deal that saw academy graduate Rhian Brewster join Sheffield United in October 2020.

And a similar arrangement here could allow Carvalho to earn important playing time elsewhere before eventually returning to Anfield.

After news regarding his uncertain future broke on Monday, the 20-year-old hinted he could soon be on the move with some cryptic comments on his personal Instagram page.

Replying to a comment from Fulham teammate Ryan de Havilland describing him as “next top model,” Carvalho wrote: “All I do now.”

And when Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga wrote, “Fresh home…”, he also replied with: “Soon”.

In other news, Liverpool could now lose out on top target to bitter rivals.
