Sources: Chelsea now turn attention to third forward summer signing

Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea are keen to add an out-and-out striker in the summer window in addition to the signings of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (19 June) that the Blues’ swoop for Jackson, 22, is now “90% done” after agreeing personal terms with the Villarreal star despite competition from Tottenham.

Chelsea announced the signing of RB Leipzig forward Nkunku on Tuesday (20 June), with the Frenchman signing a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

But the Londoners are keen to add another goalscorer to their ranks with Kai Havertz closing in on a move to Arsenal and the future of Romelu Lukaku unclear.

It is believed Napoli star Victor Osimhen and Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez remain among the names on the shortlist of the Blues’ recruitment team.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that a high-profile striker arrival may hinge on the volume of exits from Stamford Bridge this summer.

According to Sky Sports (19 June), N’Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and Hakim Ziyech are all primed to sign for Saudi clubs this summer.

Potential exits for Mason Mount and Havertz will also raise some much-needed funds.

Chelsea are keen to clear the decks and trim their wage bill after their extremely lavish transfer spending in the 2022-23 campaign.

Raheem Sterling and Havertz were the joint-top scorers for Chelsea last season – but managed just nine goals each across all competitions.

Their lack of goals was a huge contributing factor in a disappointing 12th-place Premier League finish in the 2022-23 campaign.
