Rooney makes Liverpool fans fume without saying a word on Twitter after securing Everton point

Wayne Rooney managed to anger Liverpool fans without saying a word on social media, following Everton’s draw at Anfield.

The striker posted a picture of himself celebrating his goal with the zipped mouth emoiji and it was enough to provoke a strong reaction from Liverpool fans.

Rooney grabbed his goal from the penalty spot after Everton were awarded a spot-kick in the 77th minute.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was deemed to have been fouled by Dejan Lovren in the box, and Rooney took the opportunity to level the scores.

Mohamed Salah had put Liverpool ahead just before half-time after a stunning solo effort.

Liverpool fans didn’t appreciate Rooney’s tweet and bombarded the striker’s feed with a mixture of witty comebacks and abuse.

One fan simply said 1999 referring to the fact it had been 18 years since the Toffees won at Anfield.

Another fan posted a picture of the league table, showing the Reds six places higher than their local rivals with 11 more points.

Here are some of the best reactions to Rooney’s silent tweet:

The 1-1 draw equaled a club record for the Reds as they have now gone unbeaten in the last 15 Merseyside Derbies.

Liverpool have an opportunity to break the record in January when they host the Toffees in the FA Cup third round.
