Sources: Arsenal response to Chelsea swoop for Aaron Ramsdale revealed

Arsenal are unwilling to let Aaron Ramsdale leave the club in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has been widely linked with Chelsea as they search for a new first-choice goalkeeper.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (11 November) that the Blues are ready to launch a surprise move for a new undisputed first-choice goalkeeper in the January transfer window.

It is believed Mauricio Pochettino and his recruitment staff are eyeing a new addition between the sticks despite spending a reported £25million to sign Robert Sanchez from Brighton in the summer.

But the Gunners will not sanction an exit for Ramsdale in January – even if he decides leaving the Emirates Stadium is for the best.

He has been displaced in Mikel Arteta’s starting eleven by summer signing David Raya, who has taken the England international’s place in the Premier League and Champions League.

It is believed Ramsdale wants regular first-team football as he eyes the first-choice spot for the Three Lions ahead of Euro 2024.

He is also keen to keep his career on track at a crucial time in his development.

The England international started the first four games of the 2023-24 campaign, keeping one clean sheet and conceding four goals.

He has since only played in League Cup fixtures, with Raya continuing in the starting eleven despite a smattering of high-profile mistakes.

Ramsdale is under contract until June 2026.

Summer signing Sanchez has played all 14 of Chelsea’s games so far in the 2023-24 campaign – keeping five clean sheets and conceding 13 goals.
