Sources: Aston Villa ready to accept new Dendoncker offer after talks collapse

Aston Villa are ready to listen to offers for midfielder Leander Dendoncker in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the 28-year-old came close to agreeing a deadline-day move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the most recent summer window.

However, terms could not be agreed and talks collapsed – meaning Dendoncker remains an Aston Villa player.

The Midlands giants will listen to permanent and loan offers in the January window as they try and find the Belgium international a new club.

He is a fringe first-teamer under manager Unai Emery and it is believed the ex-Wolves ace is not seen as key to the Spaniard’s plans going forward.

Dendoncker has started two games this season in the League Cup and Europa Conference League but was hooked at half-time in both outings.

He has racked up 115 minutes of action in seven appearances across all competitions this term.

The versatile star’s contract at Villa Park, which nets him a reported £90,000-a-week, is not set to expire until June 2027.

Dendoncker joined Aston Villa permanently in September 2022 but has made just 28 appearances for the Midlands giants, totalling 889 minutes of action.

The ex-Wolves man, who cost a reported fee of around £13million, can play at centre-back, defensive midfield and central midfield.

The likes of Douglas Luiz, Boubacar Kamara, John McGinn and Youri Tielemans are above the 28-year-old in Emery’s pecking order.

Aston Villa sit fifth in the Premier League after winning seven of their opening ten games this term.

They are next in action against Nottingham Forest on Sunday (5 November).
