Sources: Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu set for hike on £55,000-a-week deal

Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to be offered a big wage hike as Arsenal prepare to hand him a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (1 December) that the Gunners are in advanced talks with the full-back over a new deal amid interest from German giants Bayern Munich.

It is believed that the Japanese international, 25, will be rewarded with a wage hike on his current reported £55,000-a-week deal at the Emirates Stadium.

It is believed Tomiyasu is happy to stay in north London and sees his future at Arsenal despite his backup role under Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard sees the defender as a key element of his squad due to his versatility which allows him to play at right-back, left-back and centre-back.

Tomiyasu was brought to Arsenal by Arteta from Serie A side Bologna in the summer of 2021 for a reported fee of £19.8million.

His current deal at the Emirates Stadium is set to run until June 2025.

He has since made 71 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners, bagging one goal and five assists.

The 25-year-old has impressed in recent weeks and notched two assists in the 6-0 Champions League victory over Lens on Wednesday (29 November).

Despite a lack of starting opportunities at the start of this season, he has been selected in the line-up for Arsenal’s last three Premier League games.

Tomiyasu has racked up 37 caps for Japan and played for his country at the 2022 World Cup.

He is set to travel back to Qatar with his nation in January for the 2023 Asian Cup – and could miss up to six Arsenal games.

In other news, Arsenal now willing to let 31-year-old go.
