Sources: Leeds now 'confident' Archie Gray will stay as Liverpool and Everton swoop
Leeds United are “confident” Archie Gray will choose to pledge his future to the club despite interest from Premier League and European clubs, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (14 November) that Leeds could soon open contract talks with the 17-year-old – who is in high demand following his first-team breakthrough this term.
Gray‘s current deal has just over 18 months to run after he signed his first professional contract in March.
But despite that precarious situation, Leeds are confident he will remain at Elland Road – despite being aware of interest from top clubs.
Premier League quartet Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle, Crystal are all monitoring the teenager’s situation following his impressive breakthrough.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund are also keen to maintain their reputation as a top destination for English talent by offering Gray the chance to play abroad.
Nevertheless, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Leeds won’t cash in on the young midfielder either in the upcoming January window or next summer.
Daniel Farke’s side already privately value Gray at between £30-40million.
The Whites are believed to be laser-focused on returning to the Premier League with promotion this season – and remaining there.
Gray has emerged as one of England’s most promising talents this term and has been a regular starter for the Whites.
He has racked up 17 appearances across all competitions, starring both in defensive midfield and at right-back.
The teenager has continued a family dynasty at Elland Road – with father Andy and uncle Eddie both also plying their trade for the Yorkshire giants.
Leeds currently sit third in the Championship behind Leicester and Ipswich following their relegation from the top flight last season.
