Expert 'wowed' as 'agreement reached' for Philippe Coutinho to join Aston Villa - 'what a snip'

Aston Villa will pull off the signing of the summer if they can sign Philippe Coutinho for £17.1million.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the club’s early summer business.

As per Fabrizio Romano on Thursday (12 May), an agreement has been reached between the club and Barcelona for the permanent transfer of Coutinho.

The 29-year-old will join for “around £17.1million” after impressing since joining on loan in January.

He has scored four goals and registered three assists in 16 Premier League appearances this season.

Kenny “can’t get over” the price Villa have reportedly agreed for the Barcelona midfielder.

“That’s the deal of the summer, for me,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He joined Barcelona for £142million a few years ago and they are getting him for a fraction of that.

“Wow, absolute bargain by the way. He is some player even though he might have gone off the boil.

“Once he has a full pre-season under him and Villa will invest again, he will be part of a really talented Villa side.

“I can’t get over that, what a snip, £17million for him.”

Coutinho made 106 appearances for Barcelona after joining the club from Liverpool in January 2018.

He also spent time on loan at Bayern Munich after failing to nail down a regular spot at the Catalan giants.
