Sources: Man United in hunt to sign Kylian Mbappe after big Ratcliffe news

Man United are among the Premier League sides monitoring Kylian Mbappe after the latest twist in the race for his signature, sources have told Football Insider.

Reports in Spain have recently suggested that Real Madrid have cooled their interest in the 24-year-old Paris Saint-Germain star.

It is believed the Spanish giants could still resurrect a move for Mbappe, but Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation nonetheless as his contract in Paris continues to run down.

The World Cup winner’s deal at the Parc des Princes is set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Man United, Man City and Chelsea are likely to be the only English sides capable of funding a deal for the electric attacker.

And with Sir Jim Ratcliffe edging closer to securing a minority 25% stake at Old Trafford in the first phase of a staged takeover of the club, the Red Devils could be in their strongest position yet to mount a move for Mbappe.

The 72-cap France star, who currently earns a reported £1.2million-a-week wage at PSG, has been in stellar form so far this season.

He has managed 12 goals and one assist across 14 total appearances so far in the 2023-24 campaign – despite being frozen out of Luis Enrique’s squad for the majority of pre-season.

Mbappe has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid – even before penning a new two-year contract at PSG in 2022.

He has the option to extend his deal in Paris by a further 12 months.

The forward has notched 224 goals and 99 assists in 274 games since joining PSG for a reported £166million in 2017.
