Pundit thrilled by Leeds source's £100m+ update - 'Leeds fans will be screaming'

Leeds United have made a “great decision” to expand Elland Road.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham United and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie was pleased the Whites will develop the “iconic” stadium rather than seek to build a new ground elsewhere.

As revealed by Football Insider (30 November), chiefs have accelerated plans to expand Elland Road after securing external investment for the project.

The 49ers Enterprises have reiterated their desire to expand the famous stadium since their arrival this summer and the development, which will cost upwards of £100million, will see the capacity expanded from 37,608 to 55,000.

Football Insider also revealed in July that the new owners have already drawn up plans to redevelop the ground once the club returns to the Premier League.

McAvennie is thrilled by the update and is confident that the fanbase will have no trouble filling up a new-look Elland Road.

“I’m glad Leeds are keeping it and building on it, it’s a great decision,” he told Football Insider.

“It’s an iconic stadium and I know it’s changed over the years, but it’s still Elland Road!

“It’s synonymous with the club so I’m really glad they’re expanding it and they’ll definitely get 55,000 fans in there.

“Leeds fans will be screaming like never before for tickets. When Leeds are on fire, their fans are as good as anyone.
