Sources: Gary O'Neil tells Bournemouth he wants job full-time

Bournemouth interim manager Gary O’Neil is interested in the job on a full-time basis, sources have told Football Insider.

The 39-year-old caretaker has guided Bournemouth to four points from their last two games – a goalless draw at home to Wolves and a stunning comeback win at Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Bournemouth are still considering their options following the sacking of Scott Parker in the wake of their 9-0 humbling at Liverpool (27 August).

But O’Neil has indicated to club chiefs in discussions that he would be keen to remain in charge on a permanent basis.

O’Neil has been at the club since February 2021, joining as part of Jonathan Woodgate’s staff.

He remained at the club after Woodgate’s departure and was kept on by Parker following his appointment.

O’Neil has plenty of Premier League experience under his belt as a player, making 215 appearances in the competition for Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, West Ham and Norwich.

He made 539 total career appearances at various levels in English football.

Speaking to Bournemouth’s official site (2 September), about how it feels to be interim boss, O’Neil said, “I knew management was a big job” before admitting, “I have big responsibilities and it’s a lot of work.”

On 30 August, The Independent names Chris Wilder and Sean Dyche as other potential candidates to replace Parker.

Wilder is currently the Middlesbrough boss while Dyche is out of work following his dismissal by Burnley in the final weeks of last season.
