Brilliant signing - Pundit reacts as Arsenal 'hell bent' on signing Douglas Luiz in January

Arsenal will find it “very tough” to prize Douglas Luiz away from Aston Villa this January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Leeds United and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson claimed that the midfield is an area the Gunners should be looking to improve this January.

As revealed by Football Insider (17 November), Arsenal are “hell-bent” on bringing the midfielder to the Emirates this winter.

The Brazilian can boast impressive numbers for the Villans so far this season with six goals and two assists in all competitions while helping Villa to fifth in the Premier League table.

Robinson claimed that Arsenal should prioritise a striker this January, but that the 25-year-old would be an “excellent” piece of recruitment.

“I think he will be a very tough one to get out of Aston Villa,” he told Football Insider.

“With the way they’re going and the direction Unai Emery is taking the club, they’re European contenders again this season.

“Whether they can compete on both fronts is yet to be seen.

“He’ll be a brilliant signing and make an excellent addition to the Arsenal squad. The left-hand side of the midfield is an area where they’ve played Kai Havertz – it’s maybe an area of potential strengthening that they could potentially look at.

“But for me, if they are to go for one area this January it’s a striker. I’ve been really impressed with their recruitment over the summer.

“We forget that Thomas Partey is yet to come back too, so we don’t know yet if Luiz would get in ahead of him.”
