David Moyes told to select Said Benrahma after 'freezing him out' at West Ham - expert

Said Benrahma must start for West Ham against Burnley despite being “off the boil”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie admitted he understands that the Algerian has been “frozen out” at the London Stadium due to Mohammed Kudus’ excellent form.

West Ham travel to Turf Moor on Saturday (25 November) in search of back-to-back wins but Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Kudus are doubts after missing international matches through injury.

Benrahma has failed to get regular game time and has been handed just one Premier League start in the Hammers’ last eight games and is still looking to open his account this season.

McAvennie feels, in Antonio’s and Kudus’ absence, now is the time for the 28-year-old to shine up top and partner Danny Ings.

“David Moyes have to play Ings,” he told Football Insider.

“But you’ve got to play somebody up there with him – that would be Said Benrahma.

“You can’t play Ings on his own. Benrahma has been off the boil, he’s getting frozen out by David.

“But he’s a damn good player. This is the time when they need him, go and play up front, play off of Ings.

“I understand why Benrahma has been frozen out because Kudus is playing, but he’s just got to keep his head down.

“You can’t get beaten by Burnley. No disrespect to them, they’ve got a good manager, but sod that!

“We’ve got to go and beat them, simple as that, and get three points. These are the types of teams that we should be beating.

“But if Antonio isn’t playing, you’ve got to put Ings and Benrahma in there.”
