'Shocking' - Rangers fans are all saying the same thing about James Tavernier after 2-0 win over Livingston

Rangers fans criticised club captain James Tavernier after he missed an early penalty in their side’s 2-0 win over Livingston on Sunday afternoon.

The Glasgow giants kept pressure applied to rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table by taking all three points from their trip to the Almondvale Stadium.

Cyriel Dessers opened the scoring after 26 minutes and Tavernier converted from the penalty spot in the second half to give Rangers their ninth win of the season.

However, prior to his goal, Tavernier missed his first effort from the spot after Gers were awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute.

Ross McCausland went down in the box and Tavernier saw his effort rebound off the post.

Tavernier recently spoke about his penalty technique, with the 32-year-old scoring 57 of his 71 penalties for Rangers.

“I always do the same run-up no matter where I’m going to put the ball. That’s my style now so it’s now about just continuing to practice and making sure I hit the spot,” Tavernier said.

However, his technique let him down on Sunday afternoon and Rangers fans were left fuming at their captain on social media.

Many called for Tavernier to be taken off penalty duty at Rangers…

Others called for new manager Philippe Clement to drop Tavernier in future matches.

This fan went as far as calling Tavernier ‘pathetic’ for his penalty attempt.

Others saw comedy in Tavernier’s miss, suggesting he missed the target on purpose after the awarding of the penalty was clouded with controversy.
