Pundit makes 'huge' Celtic claim - 'I did not expect it at all'

Celtic will have a “problem” with set pieces this season after being exposed by Motherwell in their 1-1 draw on Saturday (25 November).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Scotland striker Alan Hutton claimed the Hoops’ dominance of possession makes them weaker against corners and freekicks.

Brendan Rodgers’ side suffered a late blow when Jonathan Obika secured a 90th-minute equaliser just moments after David Turnbull opened the scoring.

Celtic have won just three of their last seven games in all competitions, but the gap between them and the Gers remains at eight points after Philippe Clement’s side drew 1-1 against Aberdeen on Sunday (26 November).

Hutton pointed to a variety of reasons why the Hoops failed to secure an expected win but was cautious of long-term problems.

“It’s something that I did not expect it, at all,” he told Football Insider.

“On days like that at Celtic Park, you expect them to run all over teams and they did have their opportunities.

“I just think that if you look at the goal that they conceded – Joe Hart obviously one that was questionable as he was in no-man’s land.

“I think corners and freekicks are going to be a problem for them because they have so much possession meaning teams tend to sit back and be defensively sound before trying to launch a counter.

“They had huge chances but it’s disappointing as there was an opportunity to extend their gap at the top of the league, but unfortunately they weren’t able to do that.”
