'Sack the board', 'Parasites out', 'Time for fan ownership' - Celtic fans tear into Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell

Celtic fans are furious with Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond after their embarrassing Champions League campaign resulted in elimination against Lazio on Tuesday evening (28 November).

The Hoops have had a torrid time in Europe this season managing just one point and now a confirmed exit with one game left to play.

A late Ciro Immobile brace secured the Italian giants a 2-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico meaning Brendan Rodgers’ side can’t even finish third and extend their European journey in the Europa League.

Lawwel, the club’s chairman, and Desmond, the club’s largest individual shareholder, have long faced criticism for a lack of ambition and lack of funding from the terraces of Parkhead, but the Champions League disaster has added fresh fuel to the fire.

Fans have taken to social media to berate their “incompetence” and many want to see them hauled out of the club for good.

This Hoop slammed their tenure as “desperate and dull” and is adamant that the club will not progress while they remain.

This supporter has called for fan ownership of the club to put an end to the “nepotism” at Celtic Park.

This supporter has spotted that Desmond and Lawwell manage to suffer six games a season of getting “rinsed” in Europe but their frequent title wins are enough to keep sections of fans on board.

One fan accused the pair of doing the bare minimum to stay ahead of Rangers and claimed Celtic’s European ambitions are insignificant to them.

This fan is eager for a total club overhaul at the board level if supporters want any chance of real change.

This fan singled out Lawwell for making vast sums of money during his time at the club and criticised members of the fanbase who have accepted it.

One fan mocked Desmond and Lawwell’s legacy – their unwanted record of being the first British side to go 15 Champions League games without a single win.

One fan feels others are oblivious to the duo’s failings and that a “bowling club mentality” has settled in Glasgow.
