Andre Gomes exit to give Everton 'freedom' to complete January signings after source's reveal - pundit

Andre Gomes’ departure from Everton could afford Sean Dyche more “freedom” in the transfer market.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson suggested that the 30-year-old’s arrival at Goodison Park was another example of the player “mismanagement” that has plagued the club.

As revealed by Football Insider, (4 November), the Toffees are ready to let the former Portuguese international leave the club in 2024 having not played a single minute this season.

The £22million signing from Barcelona is reportedly earning over £110,000 per week in Merseyside despite not playing for them since May 2022 and amid the club’s continuing financial strife.

Gomes spent last season on loan to Ligue 1 side Lille, making 27 appearances and netting three goals.

Despite his injury issues and lack of chances at Everton, Robinson believes his departure could give the club a much-needed cash boost in their efforts to improve the squad.

“I think there’s a lot of decisions at Everton that are taking away from the manager financially regarding players’ contracts,” he told Football Insider.

“We know the gross spending, the mismanagement of players and wages. Everton have to cut their cloth accordingly because of FFP.

“It’s well documented and we know that situation. Whether Gomes falls foul of that or not, if it’s a player the manager wants to be taken out of his hands.

“Gomes going allows Sean some freedom in the transfer market, then I’m sure it’ll be an option that he looks at.”

In other news, Everton have submitted a new Dele Alli offer with Tottenham talks underway.
