Revealed: Man City on track to earn stunning £180m+ payout after new Premier League rule change

Man City will earn over £180million in Premier League prize money alone for each future title triumph, Football Insider can reveal.

The Premier League are set to change the distribution of prize money between the 20 top-flight teams from 2025/26 onwards.

During the 2022/23 season, the Premier League awarded over £2.5billion in prize money and broadcast payments across the 20 clubs.

Each club earned an equal distribution of £84million from broadcast rights, while their final table position and the number of live games broadcast added to their total figure.

City pocketed £161.3million in prize money from the Premier League for their 2022/23 title success.

The Premier League’s current distribution model works on a 1.6:1 ratio between the top and bottom of the table, with Southampton earning £100million for their 20th-placed finish last season.

New rules introduced by the Premier League are set to reward the clubs towards the top of the table by changing the distribution ratio to 1.8:1 from the 2025/26 season.

Should City win the title under the Premier League’s new format, their prize money earnings will grow to around £180million.

They are strong favourites to win a sixth title in seven years this term and return after the international break top of the table and one point clear of Saturday’s second-placed opponents Liverpool.

That figure could rise further if the Premier League’s revenue generation continues to increase.

The rule change has been met with some controversy, however, with other Premier League clubs complaining that it is a method that favours the ‘Big Six’ clubs who will be consistently pocketing more prize money than their competitors.
