Revealed: Man City trump Man United by £65m as record smashed

Man City posted record-breaking revenue for the 2022/23 season that surpassed arch-rivals Man United by £65million, Football Insider can reveal.

City published their updated accounts on Wednesday (15 November) revealing an overall revenue of £713million – a new record for a Premier League team.

It surpassed the previous record set by Manchester United in their 2022/23 accounts released last month.

The Red Devils announced revenue of £648million for last season, although the club still announced a pre-tax loss of £33million.

In contrast, City posted a club-record profit of £80.4million, almost doubling their £41.7million profit from the 2021/22 season.

City’s revenues were helped by the club’s on-pitch success with Pep Guardiola leading his side to a historic treble-winning campaign last season.

However, the Manchester giants have continued to grow off the pitch too, with commercial revenue reaching £341.4million.

Major sponsorship deals with Etihad Airways, Puma and Nexen Tire all contributed to City’s improved commercial figures.

Matchday revenue also grew to £71.9 million thanks to the increased number of games during City’s treble pursuit.

Broadcast income also grew to £299.4million thanks to City’s participation in the Champions League final as well as merit and facility payments from the Premier League.

As a result of their financial success, City were named the most valuable football club brand in the world in the Brand Finance Football report for 2023 with a value of £ 1.32 billion.

United are considered a less valuable brand at £1.22 billion, with the Red Devils placing fourth in the report.
