'You should be ashamed, 'he's going to cry' - West Ham fans react to Declan Rice treatment in 3-1 win against Arsenal

The West Ham fanbase was split on social media after their former captain Declan Rice was met with boos on his return to the London Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Hammers beat London rivals Arsenal 3-1 in the Carabao Cup to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Rice was named on the bench by Mikel Arteta but was introduced as a substitute just before the hour mark as a replacement for Jorginho.

The England midfielder was returning to his former club for the first time since completing a £100million move to the Gunners in the summer.

Rice made 245 appearances across all competitions for West Ham, scoring 15 goals and playing a major role in their Europa Conference League success last season.

He came on with the scoreline at 2-0 after Ben White’s own goal and a strike from Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen added another for the hosts just three minutes after Rice’s substitution.

Martin Odegaard scored a late consolation for Arsenal, but the North London side crashed out of the League Cup while West Ham were drawn at home to Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

Rice’s return to the London Stadium was highly anticipated by fans, but he received a mixed reaction both in the stadium and from supporters on social media.

This fan believes any supporters who booed Rice should be ‘ashamed’.

Many fans agreed, with one calling supporters ‘pathetic’ if they booed Rice’s return.

However, some fans were happy that Rice was given a mixed reception.

This fan ripped into Rice’s performance on his return to the London Stadium.

Some fans believe Rice’s reaction at full-time looked as though he regretted his decision to leave the club.
