'Scandalous' - Fans react to controversial Cyriel Dessers incident at Rangers

Fans were split on social media after Cyriel Dessers’ controversial late goal against Dundee as Rangers won 5-0 on Wednesday evening.

Philippe Clement’s side put on a dominant display at Dens Park to close the gap to Celtic at the top of the league table to five points.

Kick-off was delayed for 45 minutes after the Rangers bus turned up late, and the match was delayed for an additional 20 minutes due to the fire alarms being triggered by flares from the travelling supporters.

Once play finally resumed, Rangers took an early lead through Ryan Jack and second-half goals from Danilo, Sam Lammers, Dessers and James Tavernier wrapped up all three points for the away side.

Dundee boss Tony Docherty was left irritated by Dessers’ goal, claiming that referee Kevin Clancy fouled his player before Rangers’ counterattack.

“The referee has actually fouled our player,” he said. “It is one of the most bizarre goals I’ve ever seen!”

Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter to give their thoughts on the incident.

Some Rangers fans believe the goal was correctly given by Clancy, accusing Docherty of not knowing the rules.

However, some Gers fans sympathised with Dundee over the decision.

Others saw the comedy in Clancy’s mistake…

However, some supporters were left outraged by the decision, with one calling Clancy a ‘fraud’.
