'Like a £70m signing' - Newcastle fans thrilled by Joe Willock display in 3-0 win over Man United

Newcastle United fans were full of praise for Joe Willock after his eye-catching performance in the 3-0 win over Man United on Wednesday night.

Eddie Howe’s side avenged last year’s Carabao Cup final defeat by knocking Man United out of the tournament in the round of 16.

Miguel Almiron came off the bench early on and opened the scoring before Lewis Hall and Willock added to their lead after the break.

Willock made his first start of the season for the Tyneside club since returning from a long-term hamstring injury suffered in May.

The 24-year-old etched his name onto the scoresheet on the hour mark after dribbling past multiple defenders and firing a low shot past Andre Onana.

After knocking both Manchester City and Manchester United out of the League Cup, the Magpies were drawn away to Chelsea for their quarter-final clash.

Ecstatic Newcastle fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to heap praise on Willock after his standout performance in midfield.

Many supporters believe Willock looks better this season after completing his return from injury.

This fan believes Newcastle took Willock for granted before his injury, with the midfielder showing the club what they were missing on Wednesday night.

Is an England call-up on the horizon for Willock? These Newcastle fans want to see their midfield star involved in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

This supporter put it all on the line and said Willock could become ‘one of the finest midfielders in England’.

This fan believes Willock’s return is equal to a new £70million signing at the club.
