Sources: Man United star Charlie Savage undergoing Forest Green medical after deal agreed

Man United midfielder Charlie Savage is undergoing a medical at Forest Green Rovers, sources have told Football Insider.

The League One club are putting the finishing touches to a deal to sign the Wales Under-21 international on loan for the remainder of the season.

There is an agreement in place and the formalities are now being completed.

United are happy to send Savage out on his first loan so that he can continue his development with regular first-team football.

Savage, 19, who is the son of former Leicester and Birmingham midfielder Robbie, has made one first-team appearance for United in the Champions League clash against Young Boys in December 2021.

The Welshman has featured regularly for Man United’s Under-21 side this season, wearing the captain’s armband on a number of occasions in Premier League 2 action.

He has also played a key role in the EFL Trophy.

Savage also impressed during Man United’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

His contract at Old Trafford runs until June 2025 – with the Red Devils holding the option to extend it another year.

Chances for youth stars have been few and far between under Erik ten Hag – with only Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho able to make an impact this season.

Man United are fourth in the Premier League and will face Barcelona in the knockout stage of the Europa League next month.

Forest Green Rovers are rock bottom of League One following their promotion from the fourth tier last season.

They face Shrewsbury Town on Saturday (28 January).
