Multiple West Ham stars to quit in January - '100%, they will go', says expert

David Moyes needs to strengthen West Ham United’s defence this January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie claimed the club will sell players this January, but that defensive recruitment must be the priority.

West Ham have kept just one clean sheet in the Premier League this season despite sitting ninth in the table, but avoidable goals against Everton and Brentford have cost the side vital points in their push for European qualification.

The Hammers have conceded 12 goals in their last five Premier League fixtures, including a 4-1 thrashing against Aston Villa.

McAvennie slammed the defence for their “stupid” mistakes and admitted some players may have to leave unless performances improve.

“There are players there that will definitely go, and 100 per cent, they will go,” he told Football Insider.

“People that are not getting games. They need to sort their defence out.

“Vladimir Coufal has come back in and got a kick up the backside when he got left out for a while, but I think he’s come back and he’s at his best.

“Moyes has to get Tomas Soucek playing better. He’s good when he’s at it but he’s not been at it for a while.

“There’s too many quality midfield players which is good, but defensively they’ve got to sort it out because of the stupid goals we’re letting in.

“The boys have got to play better or they’ve got to go. The stupid goals are costing us – the defence is where I’d look to strengthen.”
