'I'm no Newcastle fan but...', 'Paid off by the big guns' - Fans react to 'corrupt' Premier League development

Fans are outraged over the recent vote by Premier League clubs, triggered by Newcastle United’s interest in Ruben Neves, which failed to prevent associated teams from loaning players to each other.

Twelve clubs voted in favour of imposing a ban but it was two short of meeting the required threshold which means the Magpies will be able to loan players from PIF-owned clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

Newcastle, along with Manchester City, Chelsea, Sheffield United, Everton, Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Burnley, voted against the ban, meaning they can legally make a move for Al-Hilal’s Neves despite reports he will stay in the Middle East this winter.

The Premier League themselves were understood to be in favour of the ban and the decision has been criticised as it could offer clubs an unfair advantage.

Fans have taken to social media to react to the news, and some can smell corruption.

One fan claimed others should be worried that changes to the league can be stopped by a minority of clubs.

This fan dubbed the decision as “unbelievably sad”.

One fan admitted that changing rules during the season “stinks”.

This supporter was adamant that some clubs had been paid off to vote in favour of the “big guns”.

This supporter suggested the decision would allow further cheating.

This fan is “sick” of the corruption in the Premier League.

This Newcastle fan implied that a lot of fuss has been made over very little.

This fan claimed the outcome of the vote highlights the need for an independent regulator.
