Sources: Blackburn Rovers make move for Chelsea star Mason Burstow

Chelsea striker Mason Burstow is a loan target for a number of Championship clubs, including Blackburn Rovers, sources have told Football Insider.

Burstow, 20, has been involved in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team plans this season, making two appearances off the bench against West Ham and Luton.

Chelsea could decide to loan Burstow out if they do bring in a new forward as planned before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Blackburn are among the clubs who have registered their interest in a late deal for Burstow.

Speaking to The Independent (29 August) ahead of Wednesday’s FA Cup match against AFC Wimbledon, Pochettino praised the work of the London club’s academy who, he claims, “have always produced good talent”.

Burstow could feature from the start tomorrow as the Blues boss confirmed they are going to use “four of vie” players from the academy in the match.

The striker has made two first team appearances for the Blues since joining the Under-23s from Charlton last summer.

Burstow has featured 30 times for the Under-23s since his arrival and has scored 11 goals and offered up four assists in those outings.

Chelsea have already lost Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic from their attacking line with the pair joining Arsenal and AC Milan respectively.

Striker Romelu Lukaku is also closing in on an exit as he edges towards a move to Italian side Roma.

Lukaku returned to Stamford Bridge in 2021 but spent last season on loan at former club Inter Milan where he was expected to return permanently before opting against the move.
