'Shut up' - Hutton reacts to Celtic booing controversy

Celtic fans should have stayed quiet during the Remembrance Sunday silence ahead of their Aberdeen clash.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Scotland defender Alan Hutton condemned the small number of Hoops fans who jeered at Celtic Park but admitted it is hard for the club to control the crowds.

The typically one-minute silence was cut short amid whistles from the stands and Sky Sports, who were broadcasting the 6-0 thrashing, had to make an on-air apology.

Certain Celtic supporters have often booed during moments of remembrance, including after Queen Elizabeth II’s death and in January at Rangers during the silence for the 1971 Ibrox disaster.

Hutton suggested that Celtic have enough problems on their hands.

“It’s always going to be difficult to try and control every single person in a stadium,” he told Football Insider.

“I don’t agree with the booing, just be silent and shut up! We’re asking for one minute of your time to not say anything and pay your respects – that’s it.

“Even if you don’t agree with it, I don’t think there’s any need for that.

“It was always going to get highlighted on such a big weekend and everything that’s going on, but Celtic have had issues in the past and when it comes to the Green Brigade not being allowed in the stadium for different reasons.

“This is just another thing that the club in general don’t want to have to deal with.

“It is a shame, but if you don’t believe in it don’t say anything at all.”
