Terms agreed: Chelsea in advanced talks to sign Moises Caicedo - sources

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo after agreeing personal terms, sources have told Football Insider.

Negotiations are continuing between the Londoners and Brighton over the fee for the 21-year-old, with his current employers holding out for their £80million asking price.

Confidence is rising at Stamford Bridge the they will land one of their primary targets as the Ecuador international is open to the move and to play under Mauricio Pochettino.

As revealed in Football Insider’s Transfer Daily show on Friday, Chelsea are currently the only team actively bidding and in official talks although Manchester United and Bayern Munich are both waiting in the wings.

The Blues moved fast to try and sign Caicedo after failing to land Manuel Urgarte, who is headed to Paris Saint-Germain.

The large outlay for players like Caicedo is a challenge for Chelsea ,who are in need of player sales to confront the looming risk of failing FFP standards.

Connor Gallagher is one player who Brighton like and will leave this summer.

But it’s understood he has not yet come up in discussion over Caicedo as the London side would prefer a cash sale for their home-grown talent.

Pochettino officially begins his tenure as the new man in the Stamford Bridge dugout in 15 days but has been in constant contact with the board and has spoken to Caicedo.

The midfielder played 37 times for Brighton in the Premier League among 43 appearances in all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign. He has made a total of 53 appearances for the Seagulls since his move from Independiente in 2021.
