Tottenham expert adamant on Trevoh Chalobah signing after source's January reveal

Paul Robinson has suggested Chelsea won’t do business with Tottenham despite the Lilywhites’ interest in centre-back Trevoh Chalobah.

The former Spurs and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old may be more likely to follow in the footsteps of AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori and head abroad.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (12 November) that Tottenham are interested in a January swoop for Chelsea defender Chalobah following Micky van de Ven’s injury.

The former England Under-21 international, who is under contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2028, is under contract until June 2028.

He has been displaced by big-money signings like Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi, as well as fellow academy product Levi Colwill.

Chalobah is yet to play a single minute in the 2023-24 campaign after suffering an injury during the off-season.

Goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini was the last player to quit Chelsea for bitter rivals Tottenham – with that move happening back in 2009.

Robinson told Football Insider‘s Joe Roberts: “I think Chalobah has still got a lot to prove in his career.

“He won’t go to Tottenham, though, because the two clubs don’t do business.

“Historically, and more in the past, the two clubs just don’t do business together.

“There are going to be players who fall foul at Chelsea, and at his age – he’ll want to play football.

“These players are sometimes going to top clubs around Europe. Look at Fikayo Tomori, he’s playing at the top level.

“It can be good for players like Chalobah who play with a different style.

“I just can’t see him at Tottenham.”
