Kieran Maguire verdict on Sheikh Mansour withdrawing Man City support if they are 'relegated'

Relegation from the Premier League will not pose a financial challenge to Man City if that is their punishment for breaching FFP.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider on the financial impact that relegation would have on the reigning champions.

As reported by the Daily Mail, City face relegation if found guilty of their 115 Financial Fair Play charges.

The Premier League charged City with over 100 breaches back in February following a four-year investigation into the club’s finances dating back to 2009.

Following Everton’s points deduction this month, rival clubs await to see the outcome of City’s investigation with a significant points deduction or relegation on the cards if found guilty.

However, while relegation would be a ‘hurdle’ for the Manchester club, Maguire is confident that they would not struggle financially in the Championship.

“Provided the owners maintain their support, there’s not an issue there for City,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

I don’t see the threat of relegation being a problem for City.

We’ve seen other clubs have had to deal with it.

“They have a portfolio of players who will be incredibly desired by other clubs.

We’ve seen when Leicester got relegated with desired players such as James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans that they continued to perform.

“So I don’t see it as being a financial challenge to Manchester City.

If anything, it will be more of a hurdle than a complete no-go area.
