'Put out a club statement' - Man City fans rage as latest footage emerges of Liverpool VAR controversy in 1-1 draw

Man City fans are furious after a “pathetic” VAR decision denied them the chance to double their lead against Liverpool in Saturday’s 1-1 Premier League draw (25 November).

Pep Guardiola’s men were 1-0 up at the Ethiad courtesy of Erling Haaland’s opener but Ruben Dias’ goal was not allowed after VAR officials deemed Manuel Akanji’s contact on Alisson to be illegal.

Julian Alvarez’s corner darted straight into the shot-stopper’s reach but the ball flew through his hands for Dias to poke home the ‘goal’.

Trent Alexander-Arnold rubbed salt into City’s wound just 10 minutes later with an arrowing strike from just inside the box.

A late push from City was not enough to secure all three points with the game ending 1-1 meaning they failed to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

City fans have raged at the officials for their costly decision and insist the goal should have been given as the contact on the goalkeeper was minimal.

One fan fumed at “LiVARpool” for currying favours with the referees.

This fan mocked the “Flapisson” for his actions in the passage of play.

One supporter claimed that the decision was made because goalkeepers are treated more leniently than outfielders.

This fan could not quite believe what he’d seen.

This fan simply dubbed the whole affair a “shambles”.

This supporter called for a club statement and for the VAR audio to be released – as Arsenal did after their own controversy against Newcastle earlier this season.

This fan rinsed the officials by calling their decision “pathetic”.

This fan slammed the “joke” of a referee and was insistent the scoreline should have been doubled.
