Rangers expert: Clement to welcome back Hagi to Ibrox after Beale fall-out

Philippe Clement will “never” shut the door on Ianis Hagi becoming a Rangers mainstay again.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Scotland defender Alan Hutton claimed the 25-year-old will have the opportunity and that the manager will assess all players on his sides’ roster.

Hagi was sent on loan to La Liga side Alaves in the summer and has impressed with two goals and one assist in all competitions as well as notable outings for Romania.

A knee injury kept him sidelined for almost two full seasons, but across five campaigns Hagi notched 16 goals and 21 assists in 99 appearances for the Gers.

Hutton noted his versatility and claimed he could “add something” to the squad.

“I don’t think his time is done at Rangers,” he told Football Insider.

“It was a different regime when he left. Maybe Michael Beale didn’t fancy him or didn’t like what he was doing behind the scenes or he wanted another player to take his spot.

“He can play in a number of positions, but Rangers are heavily loaded in these areas.

“At number 10, playing off the right – he can do those things.

“But he’s definitely a skilful player and he would add something. Whenever he comes back, I think Hagi will be a player that the manager will want to look at.

“Whether it be in pre-season or whatever, and then he’ll decide.

“Clement is never going to close the door on players without looking at them personally, so there is an opportunity there.”
