Pundit makes 'huge' Newcastle fans claim after latest Kieran Trippier footage analysed

Newcastle were “out of their station” for voicing their frustrations to Kieran Trippier after their defeat to Bournemouth.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former England and Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson was not impressed with a “minority” of supporters who gave the full-back grief following their surprise 2-0 defeat to the Cherries.

Footage emerged from the Vitality Stadium of the argument, where Trippier defended the defeat by reminding fans of the mass injuries plaguing the Magpies.

Trippier discussed his actions after the defeat claiming that he was simply explaining that the club were still in a good position in the Premier League and that there’s “no need to panic”.

Robinson understands both sides of the argument but warned the small section of Magpies that expectations have to be realistic.

“You can understand the frustration,” he told Football Insider.

“But the players didn’t step over that line to intentionally lose that game.

“You can also understand that fans’ expectations have to be realistic, we say it so many times.

“With success comes expectation. So all of a sudden Newcastle are competing in the Champions League and they didn’t put on the performance that they were expected to.

“Let’s say it was a minority of supporters because most of the fans are right behind the team. Newcastle have such a huge support that their following is one of, if not the, best in the league.

“It was a very small minority that had rumblings that Kieran Trippier felt he had to address.

“Newcastle are still a work in progress. Eddie Howe, the players he’s signed, the way he’s built that club from the bottom – they’ve not gone and signed world-class superstars from day one.

“But it’s about realistic expectations. With injuries and not being able to start with the 11 you want to, with the Champions League, it will take its toll at points and there will be dips in the season.

“The building blocks are in place, but they’re not going to win straight away.

“You have to level your expectations. The vast majority of Newcastle fans have realistic expectations of the team.

“After a long day out, and a few beers at Bournemouth, a few may have got out of their station!”
