Sources: Newcastle United plot new Hugo Ekitike swoop - bid already submitted

Newcastle United could come back in for Paris Saint-Germain striker Hugo Ekitike in January, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on 14 November that the Magpies are eyeing additions at centre-back, central midfield and striker following their recent injury crisis.

Newcastle are currently without striker duo Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson – and were forced to start Anthony Gordon up front in last week’s loss against Bournemouth.

The Magpies previously tried to sign Ekitike, 21, in 2022’s January window immediately following their mega-money Saudi-backed takeover.

It is believed they had a bid of £30million including add-ons accepted by his then-club Stade de Reims – but the player rejected the move.

He is now at Paris Saint-Germain but not getting regular football following the arrivals of Randal Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos in the summer window.

Ekitike almost moved to the Premier League in the final days of the summer window as a result of those deals.

West Ham were involved in discussions over a potential deal for the youngster up until the transfer deadline, while Crystal Palace also held a strong interest in his services.

Ekitike has played just eight minutes of action for PSG this term – a clear sign he is now surplus to requirements in the French capital.

He spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Parc des Princes, scoring four goals in just 14 starts amid 32 appearances across all competitions – before joining permanently.

Before that, Ekitike notched 11 goals and four assists in 28 games for boyhood club Stade de Reims to catch the attention of Europe’s elite – including Newcastle.

The France Under-20 international can also play out on the left wing.

In other news, midfield star’s plan to join Newcastle United has “blown up in his face”.
