Tottenham expert fears 'difficult' Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg situation with Ange Postecoglou after source's reveal
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will find it “difficult” at Tottenham after Ange Postecoglou’s tactical changes.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton struggled to see how the Dane would work under the Aussie amid his lack of minutes.
As revealed by Football Insider (10 November), his Tottenham future is in doubt ahead of the January transfer window but the club will seek a replacement before sanctioning a sale.
The midfielder has featured in all but one Premier League game this season but has only been afforded two league starts by the new boss and one in their League Cup defeat to Fulham.
Hutton claimed the “ugly” troubles at Spurs, including consecutive defeats and a growing injury list, have forced Hojbjerg into action but he does not suit Postecoglou’s new style.
“Unfortunately all these situations have reared their ugly head at the same moment in time which doesn’t normally happen,” he told Football Insider.
“It’s something you have to deal with. My one issue was if Tottenham have the strength in depth if one or two get injured and it looks now like they don’t.
“Possibly the international break has come at a good time for them because they can hopefully get some of those players back and reassess the situation come the next game.
“It’s difficult for a player. If you look at Hojbjerg. Yes, he’s played minutes but he’s not been a regular.
“So of course when you come in you want to grab that opportunity with both hands but sometimes it can be difficult.
“The way Tottenham play at this moment in time, he doesn’t suit it.
“With previous managers, he has because he is that defensive player and can play in that defensive blocks and launch counters.
“Ange doesn’t play that way so it was always going to be difficult for him.”
