'Before you know it...' - Pundit shares 'brilliant' Leeds verdict after Elland Road latest
Leeds United’s “brilliant” win over Leicester City will give them the confidence to chase the automatic promotion places.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa and Scotland defender Alan Hutton was left very impressed by the Whites’ 1-0 win against the top-of-the-table Foxes despite admitting he thought they would lose.
Daniel Farke’s side sit third place in the Championship with six wins in their last seven games including their 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday (11 November) despite an inconsistent start to life after Premier League relegation.
A Georginio Rutter second-half strike was the difference-maker at the King Power Stadium and gave Enzo Maresca’s side just their second defeat of the season.
Hutton claims that this big victory can be a springboard for Leeds to mount a push for the automatic promotion spots.
“It was just absolutely brilliant,” he told Football Insider.
“I thought Leicester would win before the game, but fair play to Leeds. It’s not an easy place to go and I thought they were outstanding.
“The way they closed them down, trying to win the ball. It was a good goal from a set piece.
“Leeds will be there and there about for promotion. Leicester were the team that were running away in the league.
“But Leeds winning just shows you where they are at the moment. Yes, they’re eight points off second place but they’re clawing it back.
“After that performance, the belief will go through the roof and the fans will go with them.
“If you go on a run of games like we did it at Aston Villa – before you know it you’ll be right up there.”
