Rangers tipped to sign 'another Goldson' after source's 'offer' update - pundit

Rangers can use the allure of Champions League football to secure a “quality” Connor Goldson replacement if they win the Scottish Premiership, according to Frank McAvennie.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted there is “no reason” the Gers can’t replace the 28-year-old.

A Rangers source told Football Insider on 2 December that Goldson has rejected the offer of a new contract.

This site understands the centre-back is eyeing a return to England amid Premier League interest.

Goldson‘s current deal expires at the end of the season, leaving him free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs on 1 January.

McAvennie suggested new Gers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst could play a part in luring a replacement for the key man.

Rangers are a massive club, if they do lose Goldson they can get a quality replacement in,” he told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“That’s never in doubt. Van Bronckhorst is a name as well.

As long as they stay top of the league, you can tell players and convince them because Rangers will definitely be in the Champions League group stage next year.

That’s a great thing to offer and then you have the league title silverware as well. There is no reason Rangers can’t find another Goldson.”

Winning the Scottish Premiership title would guarantee qualification to the Champions League group stage in the 2022-23 season.

Goldson has played 188 times for Rangers across three and a half years at Ibrox.

The English defender has made 26 appearances for the Gers so far this term.

He joined the club from Premier League Brighton in 2018.
