Major update on Mohamed Salah potentially quitting Liverpool - sources

Mohamed Salah is set to stay at Liverpool this summer despite links with Saudi Arabia, sources have told Football Insider.

The 31-year-old forward has decided to stay put at Anfield for the 2023/24 season despite Liverpool’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Salah has been frequently linked with a move to the Middle East, with Saudi Arabian football official Hafez Al-Medlej urging the nation to ‘start working’ on a deal for Salah.

“We must also start working on the signing of Mohamed Salah since he is overwhelmingly popular in the Arab world and in Europe,” said Al-Medlej.

A number of footballers from Europe have already made the move to Saudi this summer, including Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema and Chelsea star N’Golo Kante.

It is understood that Salah has snubbed a move to Saudi this summer, but a move to the nation in the future is still probable.

Salah is under contract with Liverpool until 2024/25 after signing a bumper deal with the club in 2022.

The Egyptian star remains one of the most pivotal players at Anfield, and even during Liverpool’s underwhelming 2022/23 campaign Salah managed 30 goals and 16 assists in all competitions.

He appeared in all 38 of Liverpool’s Premier League fixtures and made a total of 51 appearances across all competitions.

Salah also etched his name into the history books last season by becoming Liverpool’s all-time top scorer – netting a double in the 7-0 win over Manchester United in March to surpass Robbie Fowler’s record of 128.
