Rangers expert predicts Cyriel Dessers to be axed against Aberdeen amid 'locker' claim

Cyriel Dessers will be dropped to the Rangers bench against Aberdeen because “he’s trying too hard”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Scotland defender Alan Hutton tipped Philippe Clement to start Danilo up top ahead of the Dutchman.

Dessers started Rangers’ last league game before the international break in their 2-0 win against Livingston (12 November) and claimed the opener – his sixth goal in all competitions this season.

As revealed by Football Insider (16 November), Clement has been pushing his squad extremely hard during the break as he looks to transform their fitness after a poor start to the season.

While Gers supporters will be hopeful that Dessers can benefit from his hard work in the last two weeks, Hutton thinks he may have lost his spot in the starting line-up.

“I think Danilo will start,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s shown more than enough in previous games. He gives you a little bit of everything and something different.

“Dessers, at this moment in time, is maybe trying a little bit too hard.

“From what I know, he’s snatching at things and it’s becoming a little bit difficult for him.

“It’s always a hard game [against Aberdeen], but I think Rangers have enough in the locker to go up there and get a victory.

“They’ve not really had much time off as they’ve been working really hard on the training field so hopefully we can see that hard work on the weekend.

“I’ll go for a 3-1 to Rangers.”
